AUSTRIA-based Rwandan/Kenyan reggae and dancehall singer Cloud Tissa says sharing a stage with the late South African reggae great, Lucky Dube, was one of the highlights of his music career.

Dube was murdered in the Johannesburg suburb of Rosettenville in 2007.

“My first encounter with Lucky Dube was at the Reggae Sunsplash concert in Nairobi’s Ngong Racecourse in 1998. I was still an upcoming artiste but I later performed on the same stage with him. He was a great reggae singer and an inspiration to many. I will always cherish the moments and teachings I learnt from him,” he told Word Is in a phone interview.

Tissa — popularly known in Kenya for his hit collabo Physically Fit with Nameless — has performed around the world alongside other renown artistes and bands including former Bob Marley’s band The Wailers, Alpha Blondy, Sly &Robbie and Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo.

“After my project with Nameless, I went a little bit silent but I’ve been working. Working mostly from Europe may have made me a little bit anonymous from my Kenyan fans, but I want to assure them that I have new big things popping up,” he says.

With more than 300 concerts and two albums, the singer is in the final stages of his third album, Survival 99, along with the internationally renowned Europe’s number one roots reggae band, House Of Riddim.

He says: “I am a man who always reflects on my personal and cultural roots throughout my various experiences and encounters in my journeys across the continents. The new album is a reflection of my current state of being. My life through a musical journey of love, discovery, wisdom and survival.”
